Ever moved on from a relationship, yet found yourself thinking about that person years later? Or felt emotionally drained by someone, even when they’re no longer part of your everyday life?
This is where the idea of energetic cords comes in.
What Is Cord Cutting?
Within energy healing traditions, we believe that people, relationships and experiences can leave energetic attachments.
Not all attachments are unhealthy. But some may feel draining, particularly when connected to difficult relationships, unresolved emotions or experiences we struggle to leave behind.
Cord cutting is a spiritual practice intended to release these unhealthy energetic ties.
It doesn’t mean erasing memories, ending relationships or withdrawing love. You can care deeply about someone without remaining emotionally entangled in the past.
When Might It Be Relevant?
You might recognise some of these experiences:
- You keep revisiting a relationship that ended long ago.
- Thoughts of a particular person leave you emotionally exhausted.
- You struggle to move forward despite wanting to.
- Similar relationship patterns keep appearing in your life.
These experiences don’t necessarily mean an energetic cord is present. They may simply be reasons to explore your emotional attachments more closely.
How I Work With Cord Cutting
Cord cutting is part of my distant Reiki healing practice, not a separate session you need to book.
I incorporate it into my regular healing work where I feel it is relevant, alongside chakra balancing and other forms of energetic clearing.
Some clients describe feeling lighter or less emotionally preoccupied over time. Others notice little change, and experiences vary.
For me, cord cutting isn’t about forgetting someone or denying what a relationship meant.
It’s about making room for the present without constantly carrying the weight of the past.
And sometimes, that is a beautiful place to begin.
