Ever had one of those days when your mind is everywhere, your thoughts won’t settle and you feel completely scattered?
Sometimes, all you need is a few minutes to reconnect with yourself.
Grounding is a simple practice that, within energy healing traditions, helps us feel more centred, present and connected to the Earth.
Here’s a little exercise I often share with my clients.
Let’s Get Grounded!
1. Find a quiet spot.
Sit comfortably, preferably in a lotus position if that feels natural to you. Close your eyes and take a few slow, gentle breaths.
2. Visualise a beautiful shaft of light.
Imagine a beam of light entering through the crown of your head and travelling down through your body, all the way into the Earth.
Now picture that light moving upwards again, from the Earth through your body and beyond your crown. Let it flow gently in both directions.
3. Release what you no longer need.
With your hands, gently make a downward sweeping motion, imagining any heavy or unwanted energy travelling deep into the Earth.
Set the intention that anything no longer serving your highest good is released and transmuted at the core of Mother Earth, or Gaia.
4. Breathe and reconnect.
Take a few more slow breaths. Imagine yourself rooted firmly into the Earth, like a tree, while remaining open to the light above.
When you’re ready, open your eyes and return to your day.
Grounding Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated
There are other lovely ways to feel grounded too:
- Take a leisurely walk in nature.
- Hug a tree or spend a little time among plants.
- Sit quietly outdoors and feel the Earth beneath your feet.
- Wear a crystal that you personally associate with grounding.
You don’t need to do all of these, or even practise for exactly ten minutes.
I also share a guided grounding meditation with clients who prefer being gently led through the process.
My little suggestion? Don’t make grounding another task on your to-do list. Think of it as a few peaceful minutes you’re giving yourself.
Sometimes, the simplest practices are the easiest to return to.
